BioWork 3020: Measuring Small Distances with a Caliper

BioWork 3020 Measuring with a Caliper

Overview

Dimensional checks are quality control procedures in which a sample of items are measured against the manufacturer's specifications. Items that we purchase for production such as vials, plugs and overseals must be carefully measured. And we use a special tool to measure these small distances - a digital caliper. In this video, we demonstrate how to use a digital caliper to measure a 5 mL glass vial to test its height, outer body diameter, outer crown diameter and inner crown diameter.

This lab demo is just one of the many activities available in BioWork. The BioWork certificate program will teach you the foundational skills you need to begin a career as a process technician for a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing company. BioWork is offered at NC Community Colleges around the state. To find the one nearest you, visit https://ncbionetwork.org/biowork.
