NCCCS BioNetwork is a statewide initiative that connects
community colleges across North Carolina, providing specialized
training, curricula and equipment, to develop a world-class
workforce for the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and life
sciences industries. All Community Colleges serving the
pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector are part of BioNetwork.
Jobs
Industry recruiters for biomanufacturing jobs prefer
people with work experience. Because pharmaceutical and
biomanufacturing facilities are FDA compliant, new hires
must have received biotech training. BioNetwork Community
Colleges provide this education and training for people
seeking to transition into a well-paid biotech job. Short
courses like BioWork are designed to help people make
the transition into this industry.
BioNetwork holds job fairs, putting its students directly
in touch with industry recruiters. Estimates by the North
Carolina Biotechnology Center show that 2000 biotech
jobs a year are being created for people with community
college training.
A well-trained workforce is one of the most important
considerations when companies decide where they will
locate a manufacturing facility. North Carolina's workforce
has excellent credentials, and BioNetwork's extensive
cutting-edge, hands-on, workforce education and training
makes the state extremely attractive as a location for
new facilities. It is no surprise that many of the world's
largest biomanufacturing facilities are already located
in North Carolina. NCCCS BioNetwork intends to play its
role in growing this base, making North Carolina number
one in the USA for biomanufacturing.

BioNetwork Industry Liaison Phil Sheridan told Holly Springs Chamber members how the biotech industry is growing here in North Carolina. Sheridan told the audience
"people can start their careers with a high school degree and a certificate, a two year AAS degree in Biotechnology from a Community College or a four-year degree".
Sheridan also said students just need the opportunity to understand the industry.
