Window on the Workplace 2012

North Carolina’s Biomanufacturing and Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Workforce

North Carolina is home to a cluster of 54 life science production and manufacturing companies that share similarities in jobs, process technology, and international-regulatory oversight. The companies 18,695 employees (as of the third quarter in 2011) consist of biomanufacturers, manufacturers of traditional pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, as well as the analytical and manufacturing service providers that support the cluster.

These companies were instrumental in guiding the creation of NCBioImpact (http://www.ncbioimpact.org), a first-of-its-kind training program launched in 2003 that provides the critical experience for graduates and incumbent workers to find work and advance within the industry. Keying off the North Carolina Biotechnology Center’s recent publication, Window on the Workplace 2012, this webinar will provide insight into:

  • Growth within the biomanufacturing and pharmaceutical manufacturing cluster
  • Education and skill requirements within the cluster
  • Trends in recruiting, hiring, training, and retaining talent
  • NCBioImpact’s success as well as recommendations for enhancing North Carolina’s ability to meet the cluster’s workforce needs
